Tenants rights matter

According to recent data, a high number of individuals living in apartment buildings did not vote in the 2022 municipal elections. In recent conversations, Morgan has learned that many of these tenants are not aware that they have the right to vote in the municipal elections. Some may have come from nations where only landowners are able to vote. Others may have been disenfranchised through legislation in another nation. But that is not the case here in Guelph.

According to Guelph Votes 2026, there are three criteria used to determine if you have the right to vote in the Guelph elections.

  1. You must be 18 years or age or over.

  2. You must be a Canadian Citizen

  3. You must be a resident (rent an apartment, share a house, or live with family), own property, or be the spouse of a property owner in the City of Guelph.

If you are on the voter list, you will receive a registration card in the mail with information about where and when you can cast your vote.

But don't wait to get your card. By then it might be too late to register.

Visit the Guelph Votes Voter List check TODAY if you're not sure you're on the list, to add your name to the list, or simply to update it, especially if you have moved since the 2025 elections.

Accessibility options are available at home by registration September 1 - October 9 (see more information at https://guelph.ca/city-government/mayor-and-council/municipal-elections/more-ways-to-vote/ ) and at polling stations.
